Wow! How did this happen that it's Labor Day already? And how come after being alive for nearly X# of years I just realized today that August has 31 days?
I think the answer to the first question is multi-tasking - instant communication that moves time faster than we can respond - makes the days just fly by. That's part of the reason that Women & Wine exists. To smell the roses. Not only for me, but for everyone who comes to our site, who reads this blog. Share a glass of bubbly, red, or your favorite with me while we journey into a place where time stands still.
No, we're not on drugs. We just realize that the ability to slow time down happens when a glass of wine is poured. The ability to take a deep breath, finish a conversation (well, maybe), the NEED to make a human connection. Learning about wine and enjoying a glass with a friend, a lover, a book is the best way I know to re-connect with the world around us. Because, afterall, wine is about a person, a place - what's in that glass.
So we're trying to do that. Not just today - but everyday. And trying to bring it to you - virtually - but offline too.
In the last quarter of the year, we'll be coming to a city near you - or, if not, let us know that you have a group that's larger than 25 people who want to connect over a glass of wine and we'll make it happen. Because life doesn't just happen in the big cities and on TV.
So, now back to the fact that August has 31 days. You see, that in my "normal" life (there never has been one), Labor Day was always about being on vacation. My husband has this thing about taking advantage of the time when other people are checking out from their jobs and escaping because there is a national holiday afoot. And, sometimes over the past years, I've been able to submit to his requests (he's right - but let's not tell him just yet - it's only been x # of years...)
But this year we're here. In our own home. While everyone else has checked out - we're hoping to finish some unfinished business with those who might just be getting BACK from vacation. But he's right - under our American form of culture this is a great time to be away.
So what will we do - besides realizing that there is a 31 in August - we'll go to NY next week for Fashion Week, Farm Aid (which will be amazing) and the other great things that NY means to us - friends, family, great restaurants and the opportunity to try some of those new wine bars that we write about.
Here's wishing you a Labor Day filled with time to smell the roses - because in 2 minutes it's Christmas!
Julie
