Back when I first had the idea for Women & Wine and did a visit to Napa to meet the women who were the movers and shakers of the industry, everyone said "have you been in touch with Women for Wine Sense'"? Since my background was not in the wine biz, and I hadn't earned a sommelier or master sommelier designation, I didn't think that I was ready to be a member.
Founded in 1990 as a organization to provide advancement and support to wine industry professionals, the group has gone through many transitions in the past 18 years and it's website now boasts that it is comprised of women who seek to enjoy wine and well as those who are involved in the profession.
So imagine my surprise two weeks ago when I received a call from Lesley Russell of St. Supery - along with an email - announcing that on May 3rd I was to receive their Rising Star award at a weekend of events at the Culinary Institute of America's campus at Greystone in Napa.
Shocked would be a better word for it! Lesley and I had met several years ago on a visit to Napa but still - to receive this award and to be recognized by my 'peers' really made my day!
So I've been bragging to my friends - or just about anyone who would listen - after all, it isn't everyday that someone recognizes your efforts in an industry that is bursting with talent.
All I can say is, I'm just so proud.
Thank you Women for Wine Sense. And thank you members of Women & Wine and readers of this blog. I couldn't have done it without you.
